"When it comes to maximizing your dog’s safety, the proper fit of your GUNNER Kennel is as important as its rugged, rotomolded construction. As a veterinarian, here is my TL;DR on choosing the best crate size for your dog: 1. A good rule of thumb for estimating kennel fit is to choose a size that allows your dog to sit up and turn around with minimal effort. Anything larger than that would seem excessive from a dog’s perspective and a potentially dangerous one from a safety standpoint. 2. A more snug fit between your pup and the kennel works much in the same way seatbelts and airbags do at helping slow down the dog before the stop. Think of the walls of your kennel as your truck’s bumper and the interior space as the seatbelt and airbags. As rock-solid as they feel to the touch, the dynamic, flexible properties of the rotomolded plastic allows the kennel to slow down gradually, a quality best appreciated in slow-motion footage of crash tests. The kennel frame absorbs the impact of the collision, flexing and spreading the energy over a larger surface area while maintaining its structural integrity. The farther the distance the dog has to travel before coming into contact with the kennel wall, the greater the impulse generated in the pup’s collision with the kennel itself. "I was on my way home from work in my Toyota Sienna with Indie in her G1™ Medium Kennel. We stopped at an intersection we drive through every day, and when I went to drive through, a car ran the red light and drove right out into the intersection, crashing into me head-on at 25-30 miles per hour. For a wreck, it was honestly the best-case scenario. I had no injuries other than an airbag burn on my arm. When I hopped out of the car to check on Indie, she was totally fine. She was a bit shaken up and nervous with all of the commotion, but she didn’t have any injuries. Her kennel was strapped down with the Tie-Down Strap Kit, so it didn’t budge an inch during the accident. Once I realized she was okay I put her back in the kennel so she’d be safe while I handled the wreckage and talked with the first responders. I couldn’t move my car from the center of the intersection, so I was grateful that I could keep her in the kennel. I know that if she wasn’t in the kennel while we were searching for my registration and looking over my car, she probably would have gotten scared and tried to bite someone. I’m always advocating for GUNNER. I couldn’t travel for work as often as I do without the kennel, and it’s become Indie’s safe space. If Indie hadn’t been in her kennel, I wouldn’t have been able to sleep at night knowing there was more I could have done to prevent an injury.
