Day 8 of letting social media fill our daughter’s nursery wall with Bible verses🩷 20 new followers = 1 verse written. Our updated story ⬇️ After miscarrying our first pregnancy in Fall 2025 at 9 weeks, we were beyond grateful to get pregnant again. With this pregnancy, At 8 weeks, our NIPT showed a 62% chance of Trisomy 18 (Edwards syndrome), and an early ultrasound revealed a cystic hygroma (fluid behind her neck). This week, Sarah had her amniocentesis (official DNA diagnosis) + a detailed ultrasound. Here’s what they found: Concerning markers: • Cystic Hygroma still present in the neck • Two small cysts in the brain • Possible VSD (hole in the heart, still too early to confirm) • Bright bowel (can be linked to chromosomal issues or infection) • Slight skull indentation • Measuring about 5 days behind (doctor not too concerned) Encouraging signs: • Strong heartbeat (132) • Lots of movement • Four heart chambers visible • No hydrops (no dangerous fluid buildup) • Normal hands, bones, and development so far • Nasal bone present • Full bladder Where we are now: We wait 1–2 weeks for amnio results, which will give us definitive answers. Our perspective: No matter the outcome, we will love our daughter fully for however long we get with her and will not terminate pregnancy early. We received an Amnio either way because it can help doctors take better precautions if Haven actually has a genetic condition, and it will force us to monitor closer as there's a higher risk our baby's heart stops beating in the womb. Possible outcomes: • Partial Mosaic - Abnormal Cells only in Placenta • Mosaic Trisomy 18, only some cells affected • Full Trisomy 18 - Short Lifespan Usually We share this for anyone walking through uncertainty—you’re not alone.
