Femi, ‘Black Fae Day means more to me than I can say – I’ve loved the fantasy genre since I was a child, but it was a genre that excluded Black people for some time. So being able to partake in a revision of the genre, where people can celebrate their Blackness and their love of all things fantasy, together. The tights were so fun to style! When I saw the gold pattern, it instantly made me picture a fighter who had strength but also great elegance. So I sought to create a look that had a certain grace to it, but also would be easy to manoeuvre in and looked like a character that wasn’t to be messed with. The blouse felt like an instant match, and I loved the silhouette. I then added an ankara sash on top of leather shorts and a smidge of face paint to accentuate the look.’ Fola Oriola, ‘Black Fae Day means a lot to me. It’s a beautiful celebration of Black joy, imagination, and fantasy. We as black people can unapologetically embrace magical aesthetics and see ourselves reflected in whimsical spaces where we’ve often been left out. Hi!! @snagstylist here! I was privileged to interview the wonderful @tess.daly for Snag - Tess Daly is an activist, an influencer, a model, a stylist and she is hilarious. ‘Hi Josephine, I hope you don’t mind me not having the camera on but my laptop’s positioned directly below my head so all you’d get is a great view up my nose!’ From that point on I know this is going to be a fun interview but I am also struck throughout our chat, by how passionate and at times, angry Tess is about the state of the fashion industry. Indeed she brings up the interview that our own Brie did with the BBC about the backlash that Snag suffer when we use models who are fat-bodied. She mentions that for a couple of years, after lockdown things seemed to be moving in a positive direction in terms of inclusion and accessibility in the fashion world. Tess was working a lot, doing ads and shots. Lots of nice statements were made and it appeared that big brands were genuinely concerned about representation but also, post-pandemic, they had a fresh consciousness that disability could indeed happen to anyone at any time and were acting as if that was of importance to them. Fast forward to today and Tess and I commiserate with each other in the pretty certain knowledge that for many, this was a short-lived, tokenist stance. Lots of the same brands have returned to using only straight-sized, able-bodied models for their campaigns and catwalks, even where they actually make clothes for larger or differently abled bodies. ‘We’re not asking to be put in a pedestal, we just want to be at the bloody table, not under it!’ Tess says. I ask who’s getting it right and am very surprised by the answer, ‘Primark!’ Tess replies immediately and goes on to explain that they have recently launched a range of adaptive clothing, wardrobe staples like a trench coat, jeans and lingerie. These were created by Victoria Jenkins a fashion designer and campaigner with lived experience of using adaptive clothing. ‘It’s designed by us, not just for us,’ Tess adds, and continues, ‘In the Beauty world I see SEPHORA trying very hard to be inclusive, and not just during Disability Pride Month, all year round.

1. What's your name and have you been a Snaggler for long? My name is Mark and I've been a Snaggler for about two years. A fellow tights aficionado gifted me a pair of Thicket (green) semi-sheers and I've been hooked ever since. 2. We love your style. How would you describe it? Professional goth-punk with a subtle middle finger to the patriarchy. 3. Has finding Snag Tights affected your outfit choices? Yes, I used to be a lot more hesitant with things like patterned tights, but now I think they're so much fun! And Snag has a great range of patterns! 4. Who or what are your style influences? I've always liked goth and punk styles, especially mens looks that incorporate attire traditionally relegated to women (tights, skirts, nail polish, etc.) Several years ago on Instagram I started following a bunch of guys who wear tights/pantyhose as part of their everyday mens attire, and finally saw other people dressing the way that I always wanted to. There was a company that made tights/pantyhose for men years ago that finally went out of business, and I don't think it's necessary for there to be mens-specific tights, it really is a unisex garment. The fact that Snag includes people of all sizes and genders was a big reason I started ordering them; inclusivity matters! 5. What's your favorite pair of Snag Tights? It's gotta be the diamonds, which I have in both black and navy. I've gotten more compliments on them than any other pair! 6. If you could have any super power, what would it be? Teleportation! I still have my first pair. Strong and amazing. Second one was Shepards Delight, because red it’s my absolutely favourite colour and now I do not know how many pairs I have.😅 2. We love your style. How would you describe it? It’s Bogna style 😅 I don’t think I have a style. I just open my wardrobe and choose. According to my mood, to comfort, to occasion. I just have a hidden talent and I know what to combine with what to achieve the effect I want on a given day. I like colours, especially bright colours, I like when my clothes make you smile, show people that fashion is for fun, that you don't have to worry about other people's opinions, close in on yourself; it's worth opening up, experiencing, what large size bodies can and should also dress boldly and joyfully, for our weight and appearance they don't define our style but we do it ourselves. And I love accessories! 3. Has finding Snag Tights affected your outfit choices? YES!! I love to build my outfit around the tights. Thanks to Snag, I returned to my old self. To a person who likes to play with fashion and style. There was a time when I forgot how to do it. I didn't know where I could find clothes that would allow me to do so, and then I discovered Snag and it worked. I'm myself again. I even have Instagram dress_up_rainbow and I post my outfits there sometimes. 4. Who or what are your style influences? It’s Polish lady Galantalala (Urszula Chowaniec). She is one of the first body positive influencers in Poland and she helped me a lot to love my big body again. 5. What’s your favourite pair of Snag Tights? Oh its rough question…Definitely all red shadows, and Lux and of course Duo!!! Absolutely adore the duo! My favorite limited edition Christmas one, every year. But it’s dependent on the day.
