While you’re sleeping tonight, @jyanisaacbread is working the midnight shift getting ready for a bumper Mother’s Day delivery tomorrow. We have a loaf of his famous Marbled Rye in every Farm box delivery all over Los Angeles X Richard

My mother eats a papaya every single day. She also feeds it to her pet cockatoo, named Chuckles. The two of them are going to live to 150—with glowing skin and big muscles. My brother and I are CONVINCED Chuckles is going to get our inheritance. My mother takes him everywhere. He sits in the front seat of the car (while I’m in the back), and his photo is the screensaver on her phone. He’s rarely in his cage—except when they travel together (see him swimming with her friends on slide 4). He has full run of the house and garden. Anyway—they’re both completely addicted to papaya for its anti-cancer properties and so-called miracle nutrients. Strangely, we’ve never had papayas in our Friday vegetable or fruit boxes. But this week, finally, they’ve arrived: glorious, joyful Sunrise Papayas from our friends at Kumu Farms. It’s a total coincidence that this is happening over Mother’s Day weekend—but a welcome one. Maybe now I’ll finally make my mother proud... and get a leg up on that little shit, Chuckles. Before he gets all the family money. Order by EOD Thursday for vegetables, fruit, and flowers this weekend. We have over 1,000 deliveries going out on Friday, and your name is on one of them. X Richard

Petrichor: the smell of Earth after rain. Wd released 200 candles after the storms in LA this weekend. We have a handful still available today. This very special scent is created by microbes in the soil interacting with warm water. We recreated it with meticulously sourced Myrrh, Amber, Vetiver, Kelp, Cedarwood, Holy Basil, and Eucalyptus. Grab a Petrichor candle before the sunshine comes x Richard

Someone asked me today about our crest, and how we made it. Here’s the story: There is a monastery near the base of the north side of Mount Everest at 16,434 feet called Rongbuk. It’s a ramshackle place that appears like a mirage after a steep climb. I arrived at the end of the day, after a storm — wet and unbearably tired. Rongbuk is said to be the highest-elevation monastery in the world. We stopped there before continuing onward. Flickering candles lit the walls of the monastery while monks — draped in plum-colored robes — walked the space solemnly. On the wall of the monastery I saw a mural. It was faded, but the image was clear: an elephant with various animals standing on its back. I would see versions of that mural in other temples in Nepal and India. It is a metaphor for the world’s animals standing on each other’s back, everyone working together for Mother Nature and each other. I made a sketch of it, and later it would become the Flamingo Estate crest (but I added my dog Daylesford). If you look closely, you’ll even see a Dandelion — a reminder to keep moving, to change, to resist. But most of all, to find beauty, to seek pleasure, in the meantime. X Richard
