BLUEBIRD TRAIL UPDATE Our first brood of bluebirds has been a busy one! 4 boxes have hatched 17 baby bluebirds and the last box of 5 eggs will be hatching any day! Bird banding is done around 10 days old for identification and research purposes and requires a special permit to be able to apply them. The bands do not harm the bird in anyway because a special bird banding tool is used to crimp the band to a certain size. This makes it like a small bracelet or anklet for the bird. Bluebirds legs will actually get *skinnier* as they grow up so the band will not harm them as they get bigger.
