I’ve been quieter here lately, and I wanted to share why
I’ve been quieter here lately, and I wanted to share why. Over the past months, I’ve realized that I don’t want to constantly film my process—I love the creative flow too much to interrupt it for content. And for the first time in seven years, I’ve accepted that Instagram isn’t my entire life 24/7. It used to feel that way, but now I know it’s just a part of what I do, not all of who I am. I’ve been focusing on my health—eating better, moving more, taking care of myself. Over the past year, I’ve lost 20kg, but more importantly, I feel better. I work less and earn less, but I also feel happier, less anxious about chasing endless goals. So don’t worry if I disappear sometimes—I’m still here, in my basement studio, sculpting and glazing under the soft glow of my lamp, with indie and alternative rock playing in the background. #artistlife #ceramicsculpture #artist #ceramicartist #creative

Ceramic meets science in this glowing whale shark
Ceramic meets science in this glowing whale shark. ✨ At first glance, it looks like any of my sculptures—detailed, textured, and inspired by the ocean. But under the right conditions, it reveals a hidden surprise. The glowing spots on its back are made with a 𝐟𝐥𝐮𝐨𝐫𝐞𝐬𝐜𝐞𝐧𝐭 𝐠𝐥𝐚𝐳𝐞, a special ceramic coating that absorbs light and emits a soft glow in the dark. Unlike surface paints that can wear off, this glaze fuses into the ceramic, making the effect durable and long-lasting. 𝑻𝒉𝒆 𝑺𝒄𝒊𝒆𝒏𝒄𝒆 𝑩𝒆𝒉𝒊𝒏𝒅 𝒕𝒉𝒆 𝑮𝒍𝒐𝒘 Fluorescent glazes contain phosphorescent pigments that absorb light and slowly release it over time. After exposure to a light source—whether sunlight or a regular lamp—the glaze 𝐠𝐥𝐨𝐰𝐬 𝐛𝐫𝐢𝐠𝐡𝐭𝐥𝐲 𝐟𝐨𝐫 𝐚𝐛𝐨𝐮𝐭 𝐚𝐧 𝐡𝐨𝐮𝐫 before gradually dimming. It can be recharged endlessly, making it a lasting feature rather than a temporary trick. 𝑻𝒉𝒆 𝑻𝒉𝒓𝒆𝒆-𝑭𝒊𝒓𝒊𝒏𝒈 𝑷𝒓𝒐𝒄𝒆𝒔𝒔 Creating this effect requires careful firing: 🔥 𝐁𝐢𝐬𝐪𝐮𝐞 𝐟𝐢𝐫𝐢𝐧𝐠 at 1000°C to strengthen the clay. 🔥 𝐆𝐥𝐚𝐳𝐞 𝐟𝐢𝐫𝐢𝐧𝐠 at 1050–1200°C, depending on the glaze type. 🔥 𝐅𝐥𝐮𝐨𝐫𝐞𝐬𝐜𝐞𝐧𝐭 𝐠𝐥𝐚𝐳𝐞 𝐟𝐢𝐫𝐢𝐧𝐠 at 1000°C—higher temperatures would burn out the glow. While the glowing feature adds an element of surprise, it is 𝐧𝐨𝐭 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐜𝐞𝐧𝐭𝐫𝐚𝐥 𝐢𝐝𝐞𝐚 𝐨𝐟 𝐭𝐡𝐢𝐬 𝐬𝐜𝐮𝐥𝐩𝐭𝐮𝐫𝐞. Like all my pieces, this whale shark is meant to be appreciated in natural light, where its form, colors, and intricate textures take center stage. The fluorescence is simply an unexpected detail—a small hidden magic that you can share with friends. It won’t light up a room, but for a brief moment, it can create the illusion of a deep-sea creature drifting through the dark. #ceramicanimals #whaleshark #glowinthedark #oceaninspired #glaze

✨ The Truth About Luster on Ceramics ✨

I often come across concerns about the safety of drinking from luster-glazed mugs, with some people mistakenly assuming they are toxic
✨ The Truth About Luster on Ceramics ✨ I often come across concerns about the safety of drinking from luster-glazed mugs, with some people mistakenly assuming they are toxic. However, these concerns stem from a lack of understanding of ceramic production techniques, and I’d like to clarify the facts. Luster is a thin metallic coating applied over a fully glazed and fired ceramic surface. It undergoes a 𝘁𝗵𝗶𝗿𝗱 𝗳𝗶𝗿𝗶𝗻𝗴 at approximately 700–800°C (1292–1472°F), where it bonds with the glaze, creating the iridescent, metallic sheen. The composition of luster varies, but it typically contains precious metals such as gold, platinum, or iridescent compounds that produce the shimmering effect. 𝗜𝘀 𝗹𝘂𝘀𝘁𝗲𝗿 𝗱𝗮𝗻𝗴𝗲𝗿𝗼𝘂𝘀? In its raw liquid form, yes. It contains volatile solvents and metallic compounds that can be harmful if inhaled or absorbed through the skin. When working with it, I always use gloves, a respirator, and ensure strong ventilation. Additionally, the kiln firing releases toxic fumes, making it unsafe to be in the same space during the process. However, 𝗼𝗻𝗰𝗲 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗽𝗶𝗲𝗰𝗲 𝗵𝗮𝘀 𝗯𝗲𝗲𝗻 𝗽𝗿𝗼𝗽𝗲𝗿𝗹𝘆 𝗳𝗶𝗿𝗲𝗱, the luster transforms into a stable, bonded surface. After cooling, I conduct a 𝗹𝗲𝗮𝗰𝗵 𝘁𝗲𝘀𝘁 to ensure that no harmful substances migrate from the ceramic surface. The test I use is the lemon test, which is a simple but effective way to detect whether any metals are leaching from the glaze. Citrus acids can accelerate metal leaching if the glaze is unstable, but my tests have shown zero leaching, confirming that these mugs are completely safe for use. Moreover, the 𝗶𝗻𝘀𝗶𝗱𝗲 𝗼𝗳 𝗺𝘆 𝗺𝘂𝗴𝘀 𝗶𝘀 𝗻𝗼𝘁 𝗰𝗼𝗮𝘁𝗲𝗱 𝘄𝗶𝘁𝗵 𝗹𝘂𝘀𝘁𝗲𝗿, only the exterior. This means that even in the unlikely event of any instability, it wouldn’t come into direct contact with beverages. So, next time you hear someone say that luster ceramics are unsafe, know that 𝗶𝘁’𝘀 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗿𝗮𝘄 𝗺𝗮𝘁𝗲𝗿𝗶𝗮𝗹 𝘁𝗵𝗮𝘁 𝗶𝘀 𝗵𝗮𝘇𝗮𝗿𝗱𝗼𝘂𝘀 𝗱𝘂𝗿𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗽𝗿𝗼𝗱𝘂𝗰𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻, 𝗻𝗼𝘁 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗳𝗶𝗻𝗶𝘀𝗵𝗲𝗱 𝗽𝗶𝗲𝗰𝗲. Through proper firing and testing, these mugs are not only beautiful but also safe for daily use.

A mother orca and her calf, gliding together in perfect harmony
A mother orca and her calf, gliding together in perfect harmony. Did you know that newborn orcas have a yellowish tint to their white markings? This fades over time, but in their first days, it gives them a distinct, warm glow. I wanted to capture this subtle detail in my sculpture—notice how the calf’s markings have a slight beige hue compared to the mother’s pure white. A small touch that tells a story of growth and connection. #whale #sea #mother #orca #ocean

All the parcels have been sent, and I just want to take a moment to say thank you. 💙 Your support in this recent release means so much—whether you welcomed one of these ocean creatures into your home, shared kind words, or simply stayed around. Every little interaction is felt and appreciated. I hope these marine beings bring as much joy to their new homes as they brought me while creating them. Sending you all a wave of gratitude! 🌊 #ceramicsculpture #marineart #handmadeceramics #oceaninspired #wildlifeceramics
