One that flew under the May Release radar is the Hatsukokoro Shinkiro by Nihei, an apprentice of Yoshikane. These feel as about authentic as a Japanese knife can get, whilst still carrying an extremely high level of finish. The kurouchi is matted and textured, the spine thickens up considerably towards the heel, the balance is perfect, and the sharpening is superb. We've fitted both the Quince and Ebony Blonde handles to these ones, and they're available over on the May Release page under Hatsukokoro. Definitely a high performer to treasure for many years.
