𝗪𝗵𝗮𝘁 𝗶𝘀 𝗵𝗶𝗴𝗵 𝗹𝗶𝗽𝗮𝘀𝗲? Lipase is an enzyme found in all milk, which helps baby break down, digest and absorb breastmilk. ‌ 𝗪𝗵𝗮𝘁 𝗰𝗮𝘂𝘀𝗲𝘀 𝘁𝗵𝗶𝘀 𝗰𝗵𝗮𝗻𝗴𝗲 𝗶𝗻 𝗳𝗹𝗮𝘃𝗼𝗿 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝘁𝗮𝘀𝘁𝗲? There’s no hard evidence to support the true cause but it is thought that having an excess of the lipase enzyme may cause this change in breastmilk. ‌ 𝗛𝗼𝘄 𝗹𝗼𝗻𝗴 𝗯𝗲𝗳𝗼𝗿𝗲 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗰𝗵𝗮𝗻𝗴𝗲 𝗼𝗰𝗰𝘂𝗿𝘀? This answer may can vary mom to mom. What we do know is that time and temperature can play a factor. ‌ 𝗦𝗼 𝘄𝗵𝗮𝘁 𝗱𝗼 𝘄𝗲 𝗱𝗼?! I’d recommend checking your breastmilk following a fresh pump session or expression. Check every hour to every couple of hours to see when the change occurs! This can occur for some moms after a few hours in the refrigerator, while it may take a few days for others. ‌ 𝗛𝗼𝘄 𝗰𝗮𝗻 𝘄𝗲 𝘀𝘁𝗼𝗽 𝘁𝗵𝗶𝘀 𝗳𝗿𝗼𝗺 𝗼𝗰𝗰𝘂𝗿𝗿𝗶𝗻𝗴?! Unfortunately similarly to not knowing the true cause of high lipase, we also don’t know how to stop it. It’s been said, a gluten-free diet, or a non high processed diet may fix the issue.
