The first (and probably most arduous) part of the Queen Serenity wig is assembling the odangos (buns) 🍙 Specific materials used in this section: Chibi CLASSIC - Small 21 inch in Silver by @ardawigs; SmoothFOM Easy to Paint Styrofoam Balls 3.8 inch x2; and @got2busa Schwarzkopf Glued Blasting Freeze Hair Spray. All other materials listed throughout. 1. Adjust the pigtails to sit higher on top of the head. This requires a good brush and straightening before retying the pigtails. I used some elastic tied in a knot and further secured with bobby pins. Hairspray all the flyaways down. 2. Cut the pigtails. Yes! You must cut them. I measured out to 2 inches initially but in the end they got trimmed down to ~1 inch. Don’t throw away the trimmed pieces! They will be repurposed later. Once cut, fill them up with lots of hot glue to keep the bunch of hair in place. 3. Hollow out the styrofoam balls. To measure how much to cut out, I traced the circumference of the cut pig tail onto the ball with a pencil then carved it out with my makeshift razer connected to a pen. Then I scooped out the styrofoam with some dull scissors. Poke a hole on the opposite end where styrofoam still remains. This is where wig fibers will be attached. Make sure the styrofoam fit on the pigtails with space to spare. 4. Paint the styrofoam balls. This is where getting “Easy to Paint” styrofoam comes into play 🎨 Choose a color slightly darker than the wig so it looks more like shadows and not bare styrofoam. Only the exterior needs to be painted. Dry completely. 5. Attach the wig fibers. Remember those wig fibers we definitely did not throw away in step 2? Grab a handful and secure one end with a clear elastic. Spray and blow-dry the secured end so no stray hairs peek through. Insert the secured end through the hole. Make sure enough fiber length is exposed to completely encase the styrofoam ball. Comb, spray, blow-dry, then hot glue the edge of the fibers so it’s tucked under the hollowed out side. Repeat until the ball is completely covered. Odangos are complete! Next we'll prepare the tails. #sailormoon #sailormooncosplay #cosplay #cosplayer #cosplaywig #wigtutorial #wig #anime #manga #ardawigs
