The trousers are based on the workwear trousers commonly worn in Japan. A lot of history behind this style of trouser, supposedly beginning in the 1600s when the original styling was worn by Dutch settlers in New York. They were eventually adopted by construction workers in Japan as part of their uniform in the 1800s. Lots of different interpretations of the trouser around the world.
