Table lamps are an art form ✨ Here’s just some of the designs we can’t stop thinking about. Each lamp—or light sculpture—in Yuxuan Huang’s Dream Catcher series is a vibrant flight of fancy, a collage of found objects and ephemeral inspiration. In this instance, Night takes creative cues from shadow-dwelling flowers on spring nights, with its smoky green hues and an eclectic fabrication of paper, bamboo, shellac, pigment, and reclaimed wood from historic buildings in New York and Philadelphia. Kickie Chudikova’s Pulpopolis collection seems to shimmer with life. First revealed at Alcova Milano, these jellyfish-like table lamps float into view in a haze of kaleidoscopic color. Hand-blown by Murano glass masters, each piece is one of a kind and crowned with a flared lid that lifts to reveal the glowing orb within. Reminiscent of the toadstools in Alice and Wonderland—one of the Danish founder’s formative inspirations—Helle Mardahl Studio’s Mushroom lamp is at one simple and playful. The hand-blown glass is shaped into a voluptuous silhouette that rests upon a brass base and is fitted with a duo of bulbs, allowing top and bottom to be illuminated separately for an effect of shifting hues. Lighting meets ceramic design in the works of Jesse Shaw, aka Episode. The Meridian lamp encapsulates his haphazard approach to pottery and is a study in contrasts. On the one hand, clay is thrown by hand and shaped into a traditional silhouette reminiscent of antique table lamps, while on the other, an abstract medley of paint colors jumble, marble, and drip their way down the form, with a high-shine glaze delivering the finishing touch. Symbolism, folklore, and Indian spirituality are among the most significant influences for Viya creator Vikram Goya, as is the way they intertwine with the natural world. Following this creative script, the Hundred Petal Rose table lamp belongs to a collection inspired by the dense, chaotic petals of the cabbage rose, an important plant in Indian fragrance and Ayurvedic medicine. While many designers claim nature as an enduring inspiration, few follow the impulse quite as literally as Christopher Tennant of Tennant New York. Anything but
