We have a saying that comes up frequently: “How are we going to respond given our abilities?” It’s a thought-provoking take on the word responsibility, and it inspires us to act when facing adversity.    Science is under attack. Our elected (and *cough* unelected) officials have demonstrated a depressing disregard for scientific inquiry, evidence-based decision making, and academic freedom. And for those that feel the “don’t get political” knee-jerk reaction when brands like ours voice this kind of opposition, we remind you that we aren’t political. We are a company that exists to support science and scientists.   So how are we going to respond to this moment given our abilities?  Today we’re launching The Tide Never Quits tee, a design that reminds us that while the ebbs and floods of governance yank us in different directions, inclusive science prevails. That’s because science is not an ideology or political flavor of the moment. It’s a process that illuminates facts, and facts guide humanity’s most important decisions. We build bridges with physics. We fight cancer with biology. We power the world with chemistry.  Science is under attack right now, but it will survive because it works. This tee symbolizes that important truth.  While science will be okay in the long run, many scientists today are not. Students who had their funding rescinded because their research mentions “women” too many times. Talented scientists that were fired, then rehired, then fired based not on the merit of their work, but on some vague pursuit of “efficiency.” It has fueled an offensive narrative that the scientific community is lazy, entitled, and based on how they’ve been treated recently, worthless.    And it couldn’t be further from the truth.   That is why we’re donating 100% of the profits from this shirt to @americangeophysicalunion the world’s largest association of Earth and space scientists. They have supported scientists for over 100 years and are leading the charge to defend them today.
