Photo Recap: Vatnajökull Bike Expedition with @miron_golfman 230 miles. Deep snow. No trail. No certainty. Earlier this spring, @miron_golfman joined @chrisburkard, @justin.and.bikes, @kurt.refsnider , and @tyson.flaharty on an epic attempt to cross Iceland’s largest ice cap—Vatnajökull—by fat bike. The plan: ride from coast to coast, including a full glacier traverse. What they got: thigh-deep snow drifts, relentless Icelandic winds, and some of the most spectacular miles of their lives. Snow conditions forced them to adapt fast—waking in the dark early morning hours when the crust was firm enough to support their loaded rigs and avoid endless hike-a-bike. Some days saw just 15 miles of progress. Others ended in whiteouts, drifted-in tracks, and makeshift camps under the aurora. A hot spring at Landmannalaugar was a brief oasis. Then it was back to crossing Iceland’s vast and relentless interior. Photos by the talented: @chrisburkard 1,2,3,5,6,7 and @kurt.refsnider 4
