It has been a true honour to serve on the host committee of this year’s MET Gala - Superfine: Tailoring Black Style. As a student over a decade ago, it was the writing of Monica L. Miller that helped inform my thesis around black style. It is a full circle moment to see Monica’s book - Slaves to Fashion: Black Dandyism and the Styling of Black Diasporic Identity - realized as an exhibition at The Metropolitan Museum of Art and to dress Monica herself for this momentous occasion. I wish to sincerely thank co-chair @lewishamilton for believing in me and trusting in my vision. Lewis has long been a champion of my work and it has been a great privilege to work together along with @ericjmcneal on a look that pays tribute to a proud diasporic lineage.
