Today, after a 10+ year hiatus, we are relaunching a traditional black selvedge denim jean. What most of the consumer base now knows as "black denim" is what we call Double Black, meaning black warp and black weft yarns leading to a jet-black appearance. Our very first run of jeans back in 2008 included a run of raw indigo selvedge (indigo warp/white weft) and raw black selvedge (black warp/white weft). The difference comes in the appearance of the fabric. With traditional black, you get more of a heathered black color due to the weft yarns showing through on the weave process. It gives the fabric a bit more depth in appearance and has a more classic look. We believe both deserve a place in your wardrobe. The 203x denim is a 14oz selvedge fabric with a redline selvedge ID that originates from a small mill in Hiroshima; they were the same mill that produced our Natural Indigo 102xn denim from our 20 year anniversary. We really love the crunchy hand that this jean starts out with, but at 14oz it's not a difficult jean to break in at all. With time, raw black denim will fade to grey in areas of high wear. You can find the RS-203x jean exclusively via 3sixteen.com or our two flagship stores in NY and LA.
