Right as Wooj was taking off - I got fired! At the time, we had just moved into a lovely, light filled studio, just 20 minutes from my apartment. A huge improvement over the closet of my apartment. We were feeling like a real studio, a real business. But a real studio space meant paying real rent. We’d also hired a few people and all of a sudden, we had real overhead! Times were tough. We almost went out of business because we hadn’t accurately forecasted how much we would be paying every month. But we asked our community for help, and you all saaved the day, turning one of our worst months into our best. But there were still challenges ahead. We spent months working on the Arcas lamp; still my favorite design - and launched it to … crickets. We sold so few of them that it felt like a waste of time - even though the design itself was gorgeous (imo) - a totally random weekend project later, I had designed a new base for the Arcas shade - and turned it into the CS.01, a product less than half the price, but with all the same elegance of the original. After years of being the “Wavy Lamp” company, the CS.01 became our new bestseller. Soon enough, we outgrew our little studio and it was time to move. But it was going to be a big risk.
