Around my house, you may often hear me say, “It’s not Mama’s job to figure out what you do with your free time. That’s your job and what a privilege and joy that is! If you need help figuring it out, I have some chores I need done.” 🙃 They’ll figure out something- and quick. 😆 Children (and really all of us) could use a little boredom to encourage imaginative play and to pursue creative endeavors. What this looks like for us is me not entertaining them, minimizing screen time, offering open-ended toys, and giving them lots of margin in our routine for free play and discovery. While I do intentionally set our environment and offer ideas throughout the day, I don’t have activities planned out for them very often at all. I will jump in and help get their creativity going, but then I walk away and encourage them to keep the play or creating going. Is this you too?
