Today is April 25, traditionally the Feast of Saint Mark the Evangelist. But this year, his feast is overshadowed—beautifully—by the celebration of the Easter Octave. In the Church’s liturgy, the joy of the Resurrection is so immense, so foundational, that it stretches into eight full days. Every day this week is treated as Easter Sunday. That’s how seriously God wants us to rejoice. Today’s Gospel from John 21 is radiant in its simplicity: the Risen Jesus appears to His disciples and feeds them breakfast. No grand speeches. Just presence, warmth, and love. Easter joy isn’t loud or flashy—it often comes in quiet moments when we recognize Christ in the ordinary. Still, we can’t help but think of Saint Mark, whose Gospel ends with the Great Commission: “Go into the whole world and proclaim the Gospel.” That mission didn’t end at the tomb—it began anew there. And now, as Resurrection people, we’re called to live and share the good news with the same boldness. Whether through a conversation, a kind act, or even a shirt that proclaims His name—we share the joy of Easter. Jesus is risen. And He is still working through us. Saint Mark, evangelist and servant, pray for us.
