I have had a few weeks to think about @hardrock100run & I have put a lot of thoughts into my last recaps but what it comes down to is I love the Hardrock community and it feels like coming home. This was my fifth Hardrock finish and I was so excited to make it around in less than 35 hours. I finished in 34:33:15 and finished 24th overall and 19th boy and 2nd person over 50 years old and the 1st person from the East Coast to finish this year. Proud to be a flatlander but man can make it tough in mountains ⛰️ 😉🏃‍♂️.. It was also my first time with a new crew so I had a great time learning how to work with my friends: Alex, Kyle, Erin, Nik, Zack and my best friend Tom. I felt pretty great most of the day but struggled with going over Handies Peak which is the highest point on the course at 14,048 Feet. It took a few hours but eventually I felt better and moved from 60th place to the the top 25. I love being out adventuring at night and it proved helpful with being able to get stronger and faster as the race went along. I did have a few bonus miles as my pacer Alex and I missed a turn, after I dropped Alex on a climb up Grant Swamp Pass I missed a turn on my own as there was a church group standing right in front of the markers and I blew right by. Luckily I saw my friend Jason and he was able to get me back on track. I closed hard the final 10 miles of the race and in the last two miles I passed 2 athletes. I finished the last 1/2 mile running sub 6 mins per mile and roared to the finish. It was sublime and so couldn’t have been happier that my crew was able to join me for the last 1/4 mile. I celebrated by volunteering at the finish line aid station by helping to make food and drinks for the other athletes. Hardock is an amazing place and the towns of Silverton, Lake City, Telluride and Quary are true outdoor towns full of wild and tough people and unparalleled beauty. I feel so fortunate to have gotten to race again at Hardrock and I hope I can get five more finishes in the future. I can’t thank everyone enough for their support and my sponsors for allowing me to chase my dreams. #tevabureauofadventure #running #trailrunning
