@sleepnomorenyc closed its doors this weekend. It seals the end of an era—Sleep No More, in many ways, marked the birth of my jewelry brand. My first go was while shooting my very first Sofia Zakia lookbook with Hana Haley in NYC in 2015. I had never experienced anything like it, spending 3 hours wandering the halls of Gallow Green (having my first 1:1 with Nurse Shaw), completely enraptured. I’ve had the pleasure of attending many times since then, each time proudly wearing a Sleep No More-themed necklace or charm that I’d made in case I got a 1:1. Giving it to a performer would make the experience fully immersive: breaking that 4th wall, giving something back, an emotional transaction without uttering a word. Agnes, Banquo, Taxidermist, Porter (beloved Porter!). It’s been an absolute dream. I’m sad to see such a beautiful experience disappear, but what gives life its gilded halo is that everything is ephemeral, even the eternal. Thank you to its residents and founders for creating such a magical space. If you worked at @themckittrick and would like a hotel key, please reach out to me.
