Follow for skincare tips- Dr Vanita Rattan Cold sores are one of the most common lip complaints I see. They’re caused by the herpes simplex virus (HSV-1) and usually show up as small blisters on or around the lips. A few things to know: They’re viral, not bacterial, so antibiotics won’t help. They spread easily through kissing, sharing cups or even lip balms. Triggers include stress, sunlight, illness and hormonal changes. They tend to heal in 7–10 days, but treatment can shorten this. What helps: Antiviral creams (the earlier you start, ideally at the tingling stage, the better). Oral antivirals if you get them often or severely. Daily SPF on lips can reduce flare-ups. Keeping lips hydrated to prevent cracks. What to avoid: Picking at them (it delays healing and spreads the virus). Sharing anything that touches your mouth while you have an active sore. Cold sores are common, manageable and nothing to be embarrassed about. The key is recognising the early signs and treating quickly. #skincare #coldsore
