We’re excited to share a new addition to this year’s Collective Summit focused on the birds of Paintrock Canyon Ranch and the role they play in the broader story of conservation on working lands.   One morning, wildlife biologist Zach Hutchison will lead a hummingbird banding session, part of an international research effort to better understand these migratory pollinators. Guests will learn about banding methods, hummingbird behavior, and how this work ties into long-term conservation goals. If birds are present, participants may even have the chance to hold a hummingbird before it’s released.   In another workshop, participants will set out on a guided bird walk through ranch. In August, some birds are beginning to migrate, while others are still lingering in their summer habitats. Possible sightings include warblers, vireos, flycatchers, orioles, raptors, mountain bluebirds, and more hummingbirds. This workshop builds on the larger story we’re exploring at the Summit: how creative expression, scientific observation, and land stewardship intersect. Other workshop opportunities include a hands-on art workshop with Jill Soukup, whose art has long captured the spirit of Ranchlands.
