When we were kids, my younger brother had this evil genius way of cleaning up the house and earning brownie points with our parents just so I’d get in trouble because he knew I hated chores. And then one day, I destroyed his precious Tazo collection (still sorry, kind of). But my favourite core memories aren’t of the fights…they’re of the times we teamed up. Like saving every rupee to buy tickets to the amusement park. Or when he quietly let me sneak in late at night. Or the time he got into trouble at school and I marched to his teacher as the ‘elder sister’ to save him from my parents’ wrath. Now we’re older, and we’re confidantes, friends, counsellors. When nothing in the world makes sense, I find comfort in my siblings, younger or not. I’ve learnt there’s just one true duty of being a sibling and it’s not to protect, but to be there. Through the good, the bad, and the utterly foolish.
