Last Tuesday of the year, “Chaharshanbe Suri (چهارشنبه‌سوری) is an Iranian festival celebrated on the eve of the last Wednesday before Nowruz (the Iranian New Year). The name translates to “Red Wednesday” or “Wednesday Feast.” It is an ancient fire festival with roots in Zoroastrianism, symbolizing the purification of the soul and welcoming the new year with light and energy. Jumping Over Fire – People light bonfires and jump over them while chanting: • “Zardi-ye man az to, sorkhi-ye to az man” • (My paleness to you, your redness to me) • This symbolizes getting rid of illness, misfortune, and bad energy while gaining health and strength. Chaharshanbe Suri marks the transition from the old year to the new, emphasising purification, hope, and renewal. Though it is deeply rooted in Iranian culture, variations of this festival are also celebrated in parts of Azerbaijan, Afghanistan, and Kurdish regions. 📷 by @soheildelkash
