With winter coming to an end, apple trees are almost ready to wake up! ❄️🌱 But before spring arrives, there’s one important step—pruning 🍏 Here are a few things we learned about pruning from an EFI-certified apple grower: 🍎 Pruning in the winter helps trees produce high quality fruit. (Too many branches can ‘sap’ a tree’s resources!) 🍎 Apples need sunshine to give them their nice red color. Pruning helps clear excess foliage so the fruit can get even color during the summer. 🍎 Pruning is an advanced farm task that requires experience and skill to ensure just the right amount is being pruned away.
