$70,000 raised. From one video. My dad was born and raised here in Cape Verde. I’ve been here many times before, but this trip was different. It was my first time coming back since starting the charity, and my first time seeing everything through this purpose. Driving through these streets hits different when you understand the stories behind them. Families surviving on almost nothing. Kids playing barefoot but still laughing. People with so little, yet somehow, so much light in them. Someone said “way to funnel money into another country instead of the one that made you.” But this place did make me. It made my dad. It’s part of my story, my family, my heart. Helping here isn’t turning my back on where I’m from, it’s honoring where we came from. The people of Cape Verde have a spirit that can’t be broken.
