April 30, 1975 - The fall of Saigon and the end of the Vietnam War. This day marked the end of non-communist South Vietnam. Americans and tens of thousands of South Vietnamese were quickly evacuated. Ground combat units had departed two years prior, and were unable to assist with the evacuation.
