When Chinese pig farmers found out about europeans love of truffles and realize they had been feeding them to pigs the Chinese truffle trade opened up and many species of Chinese truffles entered the European market. Some of which looked so similar to valuable European truffles that businesses started cutting their expensive European batches with Chinese lookalikes and just enough of the European variety so when you opened up your container it smelled like them. This problem became so prominent that Italy has banned the import and sale of Chinese truffles 😳
