I'm grateful and proud to be an American. This country means so much more than just the politics that divide us. The other week I released a map of the Philippines. While the comments on Instagram stayed really positive, the comments on Tiktok were not. I got dozens of comments saying disparaging things trying to convince Filipinos not to be proud of their country. They pointed to the worst, completely ignoring the best. Obviously that is wrong. I'm a big believer that humans are capable of having love for their homeland without having perfect love for their government. Feeling proud of one's history, heritage, or home is not conditional on the small handful of people who make the news. I love the USA. I love the principles of freedom and equality that are engrained in our founding documents. I'll keep loving American even if a Republican is in office, or even if a Democrat is in office. Heck, I'd still love America even if an idiot like myself was president.
