Here are 3 staple back movements I program to actually build that V-taper and density: 1️⃣ Wide Grip Pull-Ups or Lat Pulldowns These target your lats, which create the illusion of a wider frame and that classic V-shape. Think of your lats as “wings”—the bigger they are, the broader you’ll look. If you can’t do bodyweight pull-ups yet, start with assisted or lat pulldowns to build the strength. 2️⃣ T-Bar Row or Chest-Supported Row This is all about thickness and density. Rows train your mid-back, traps, and rhomboids—muscles that give your back that 3D look instead of being flat. Chest support keeps form strict and takes momentum out of the equation, forcing your back to do the work. 3️⃣ Single-Arm Cable Row or Dumbbell Row Unilateral work ensures balance and symmetry.
