Laura Bond is 6 years old this weekend! So here’s 6 things you probably don’t know about me… 1. Owning my own business wasn’t a lifelong dream, I honestly started the brand because I was SO frustrated that no one would make the kind of jewellery I wanted for my piercings. Luckily I absolutely love being a business owner, which is good because I can’t imagine going back to working for someone else - and I’m pretty sure I’m unemployable now 🤣 2. I’ve failed my driving test 11 times. Yup, 11. I’ve never met anyone else who’s failed that many times. I’m having lessons again at the moment - it’s been 10 years since I last took a test - and for the first time I’m loving it and really enjoying the process. I like to think it proves my determination and tenacity! Failure doesn’t scare me, which is a brilliant lesson for running a business. 3. I didn’t study business or jewellery design at university. I did English Literature. I definitely should have done something more creative but I had NO idea what I wanted to do. I wish I’d been a bit easier on myself and trusted that I’d find my path. No regrets though, I’m right where I’m supposed to be. 4. I’ve not followed a straightforward career path and I didn’t start LB until I was 35. Previous jobs I’ve had include: Manager at Starbucks, Tour Guide at Holyrood Palace, Bridal Makeup Artist and Communications Officer for a Social Housing and Care organisation - among many others. I used to feel such imposter syndrome that I hadn’t come from a design background but now I see my eclectic CV as such a positive - I genuinely learned so much from all my jobs. 5. I’ve lived in over 15 houses in my life, my Dad’s job meant we moved every 2 years when I was growing up. I spent a lot of my childhood in Germany and then the south of England. I moved to Edinburgh when I was 18 and fell in love with the city and the people here. I never really felt like anywhere was home until I moved to Scotland. 6. I love cats and have a British Short Hair called Willow. She’s 11 years old and very spoiled. She’s named after Willow from Buffy - my fave ever TV show. I still can’t believe Sarah Michelle Gellar will be wearing my jewellery!
