I had worked late the night before and slept in that day. I remember hearing a faint explosion and feeling the ground shake, even though I was about 50 miles west of Oklahoma City. When I turned on the TV and saw what had happened, it was surreal—like something out of a nightmare. It was the first time we’d seen an attack like that in our own state, and the images were almost too devastating to believe. The next day, we made our way to OKC to see it firsthand. The photos and footage didn’t do it justice. Seeing the building torn in half, hearing the stories of the lives lost—men, women, and children—was something I’ll never forget. It was hard to even process. And if you had friends or family who were affected, it made it all the more real. When they caught him, it felt like the entire state was ready for justice.
