Fen and I have been watching a group of muley bucks since this spring. Since I spent most of September in Alaska, we only had 2 days to hunt during the archery season. Managed to stalk to within 27 yards of this guy while he was bedded before we ran out of cover, and options. It isn't often you get that close to a buck like this and decide to back out but that's what we did. It was just too far for Fen. Fast forward to the opening day of rifle season, sitting on a bluff overlooking a steep section of canyon. We hear rocks clattering below and look down to see a few does headed our way and not far behind, the group of bucks we'd become familiar with. A few small bucks, one wide typical and this guy, kickers and stickers. I told Fen to pick out the biggest one and squeeze slow. Fine job kid.
