Memories avalanched as I visited my old band On Broken Wings last night and the songs we wrote together. There’s something warming about seeing high school friends who remind you of the high school you — in my case: mischievous, wide-eyed, curious, ambitious — I like to think I’m still that person but with a little less water balloons. While I left my role as a DJ in a metal band long long ago to make T-shirts with cupcakes on them, I’m appreciative of the journey, as starting a band taught me: grit rejection relationships marketing adapting teamwork event planning More than anything, it instilled a get-it-done D.I.Y. (Do it Yourself) scrappy entrepreneurial mindset. God bless my parents for letting us have mosh metal brand practice in their basement as teenagers and fostering a sense of wonderment.
