Ernest Hemingway was born on this day in 1899. Not only was he one of the most celebrated writers of the twentieth century, he was also one of the most photographed. I have always been fascinated with photographs of Papa, as each one tells a story. This first photo is one of my favorites, probably captured in Kenya 1953/1954. You can guess why I like the second one so much. The third is one that never fails to make me smile, taken at his Finca Vigía in Cuba surrounded by books and wine, his dog by his side. He looks happy. Living a life that mirrored his writing, he remains an inspiration to generations of those who pick up the pen. The typewriter Hemingway used to write A MOVABLE FEAST now sits in my office, a gift from a reader who wishes to remain anonymous. It is flanked by books by and about the big guy.
