🚧 Have you noticed the scaffolding around the Museum’s building recently? One of the key features of our #ExteriorImprovementProject is to clean, repair and, when necessary, replace the distinctive ceramic tile on the building façade. Designed by ceramist Edith Heath (1911–2005) in 1969, these custom tiles won her the highly prestigious Industrial Arts Medal from the American Institute of Architects, marking the first time that a non-architect was the recipient. In 2023, the tiles underwent a conservation study by Architectural Resources Group (@ARG.Create) to better understand their condition and to devise a restoration plan. At the same time, the Museum commissioned Heath Ceramics (@heathceramics) to recreate tiles for use where the original tiles are either missing or too damaged for repair, as well as to clad a new wall near our front steps. From now through summer, this important work is taking place on select parts of the building. #TileTuesday 🔗 Tap the link in bio to learn more! ___ Photos: 1.
