We have over 3000 Viking Age runestones here in Sweden. New finds are made now and then, and even the smaller ones can be significant. Such as this small piece of a runestone that was found north of Uppsala recently. It measures about 30 x 35 cm (12” x 14”) and was found at Lena Church during maintenance work of a stone wall adjacent to the cemetery. The piece is limestone, which is very rare when it comes to runestones in the region of Uppland. Only one runestone made in limestone has been found in Uppland previously, right by the same church. This has lead to the archeologists believing that the new find is actually a part of the older find. The archaeologists aren’t completely sure about what the runes seen on the piece read.
