Rollins Pass, Colorado | 11,600'. From Boulder, it's a ~40 mile, 8,000' climb, of which the last 16 miles have a @strava segment named after it called "Up the bumpiest road ever". But boy, is it worth the challenge. Last Sunday, @the_real_jasonderulo and I crested the Pass - which necessitates carrying your bike up and over a boulder field to clear a long closed tunnel - at about 9am before continuing onto an equally bumpy descent into Winter Park and then taking the long way home to finish up a 180+ mile day in the mountains. No bike frame I'd rather have for 14+ hour ride that covers nearly the full spectrum of road surfaces than a @mootscycles Routt RSL, and no better kit to hold up to the elements - and my carrying capacity needs - than @giordanacycling! After two early season ultra races, I promised myself at least one super duper long adventure day this summer before focus shifts to a final two upcoming events. I'd been looking forward to whatever the adventure ride might be, and Jason's proposed bonanza was perfect. My first time up to Rollins Pass in 5 years, and my first time riding through (or even being in!) Rocky Mountain National Park that afternoon. This ride also wrapped up one of the strongest feeling training blocks I've ever had. One more chunk of structured training ahead before it's time to focus up again...first, it's a third round of the @gravel_worlds Long Voyage, and shortly thereafter is the REAL big one - @alpsdivide Ultra!
