Designed and named after the man behind the indisputably iconic calçadão of Copacabana, the Sítio ("Grange" or "country estate") is officially recognized by UNESCO as a World Heritage Center. Nothing short of a botanical marvel, this epic landscape garden serves as an encapsulation of Burle Marx’s legacy. ⁠ ⁠ Initially purchased in 1949, with the purpose of becoming a botanical laboratory for Burle Marx' growing exploration of Brazilian flora, the site has continued to expand for over a decade. Ever-winding lakes are adorned with moss and greenery local to Brazil’s Mata Atlântica ("atlantic Forests"), 37 species of which were discovered by Burle Marx himself.
