Inside our Bhutan Box is a very special Hazelnut Chocolate Spread, with Hazelnuts grown with our friends at @mountainhazelnuts . Bhutan’s clean alpine air and rich soil result in Hazelnuts that are, quite simply, more delicious than any other. We slowly roast them to perfection, then stone-grind them into the creamiest of pastes. We then hand-mix it with organic Cacao, a hint of Vanilla, the subtle, citrusy spice of Wild Himalayan Timur Peppercorns, and a delicate sprinkle of Himalayan Pink Salt. Through a landmark partnership with the Royal Government of Bhutan, @mountainhazelnuts has spearheaded a national initiative to plant millions of hazelnut trees on the country’s highest mountain slopes. This project has created a long-term, sustainable source of income for over 12,000 farming families in remote communities. It is also a powerful force for environmental stewardship, helping to stabilize slopes, reduce erosion, and improve soil fertility in accordance with Bhutan’s deep commitment to conservation. What began as an agro-forestry initiative has grown into one of Bhutan’s major employers—and one that puts gender equity front-and-center. Nearly 5,400 women-led farming households are embedded in the supply chain. By committing to a profit-sharing mechanism for growers and a guaranteed price for harvested nuts, Mountain Hazelnuts gives participating farmers the security to invest in their children’s education, build resilient livelihood streams and anchor themselves in rural Bhutan rather than migrating in search of work. They traveled the entire country with us, driving for days to visit remote farms. Crucially, they supported us with the complex fulfillment and export for all our Bhutanese farmers, not just their own.
