Why did we come to the Kingdom of Bhutan to source Holiday gifts? 
Here’s the answer: Hunting is banned. It’s illegal to keep any animal in a cage. There is no mining, no drilling. The constitution requires at least 60% of the country to remain forested — they currently exceed that, with 70% cloaked in green. Bhutan is the world’s only carbon-negative nation. It’s invested generously in solar power, hydro power, and renewable energy. Electric cars are tax-free; gas-powered cars carry a 100% tax. The government provides free comprehensive healthcare and education for everyone. Hospitals combine Western medicine with traditional healing. The arts, architecture, and culture are generously funded. Farmers are supported. There are no billboards. No chain restaurants. No homelessness. Bhutan offers tangible proof that a democratic government can lift everyone up — ensuring not only that citizens are healthy, but that they are fundamentally and wholeheartedly happy. Aside from working directly with the farmers of Bhutan, a portion of our sales will support the Choki School in Bhutan — a remarkable institution that provides free education to underprivileged children from the country’s remote rural villages. Flamingo Estate will fully fund the tuition, room, and board of 20 students, giving them a full year to learn, create, and grow.
