After five years, we’re completely blowing up and rebuilding our vegetable and fruit program this week. It’s how Flamingo Estate got its start, delivering farm boxes all over Los Angeles. But many of you told me you were getting a little bored with the existing model, and I too wanted some new electricity. So this week we’re starting a very exciting new chapter. ZAP! Each month, one of our heroes will be the guest curator for our boxes. We’re starting with LA icon and culinary wizard, @evanfunke !!! He’s the custodian of Italian food right here in our city, a two-time James Beard-nominated chef, and considered one of the best pasta makers in America. His restaurants— @motherwolfla @felixlosangeles and @funke_la —are among the best in the world. And for the whole month of September, he is curating our Farm Boxes. Chef Evan and I walked the Santa Monica farmers market yesterday, putting the finishing touches on this week’s deliveries. In it, you’ll find a party of tomatoes: Mountain Magic Tomatoes, Yellow Grape Tomatoes, and Piña Heirloom Tomatoes, both fresh and sun-dried. Chef Evan is also including his Nonna’s famous tomato salad recipe. We’ve added Basil, Oregano, Onion, and a Fig Balsamic Vinegar to complete the salad. Chef Evan will be our curator all month, and next Friday we’ve got something even more amazing planned. X Richard
