A plant ‘volunteer’ is one which finds its own way into your garden. Some we like to keep, some we’d prefer not to allow to go to seed because they can take over (i.e. weeds). These poppies are not from our range, the first sprung up from a seed probably dropped by a bird a few years ago. But the flowers are so beautiful during May that we collect and scatter more of them every year because they look great among our late spring bulbs, including alliums, Dutch Iris and Camassia.
