President Lincoln issued the Emancipation Proclamation on January 1, 1863, but the Civil War raged on. And for enslaved Black Americans in territories under Confederate control, freedom would be painfully delayed. Not until June 19th, 1865 when Union troops arrived in Galveston Bay, Texas would that promise of freedom finally reach the last of the enslaved peoples in this country. That day became known as Juneteenth, as well as Freedom Day or Emancipation Day. And while it’s been celebrated ever since, Juneteenth was not made a federal holiday until 2021.   Today, we celebrate the historic significance of Juneteenth to our country and the game of baseball. Telling the untold stories of our national pastime and honoring the heroes and legends of the Negro Leagues is at the heart of everything we do. We’re proud to partner with @nlbmuseumkc in Kansas City and support its mission through proceeds from our products that pay tribute to these teams and players.
