Glenkerry House was the Brutalist brainchild of renowned Hungarian architect Ernő Goldfinger. Completed in 1977 as part of East London’s Brownfield Estate, the building reflected the post-war drive to create new housing and offered residents unusually spacious flats for its time. Developed under what is now the Glen Cooperative Housing Association, Glenkerry House provided affordable homes and opened the door to accessible ownership for many Londoners. Goldfinger - born #OnThisDay in 1902 - is celebrated for his bold, angular Brutalist designs. Alongside landmarks such as Trellick Tower and Balfron Tower, Glenkerry played a vital role in addressing London’s post-war housing crisis. Rising 14 storeys high, the building soon became known as a 'vertical village' for its cooperative model of resident-led management, which fostered a strong sense of community. Today, Glenkerry House stands not only as a Brutalist icon but also as a lasting example of community-led living. 📸 @dec_michal
