#ArchitectureFriday | Ricardo Bofill’s Edificio Xanadú is a striking example of architecture responding directly to its environment 💚 Set into the coastal cliffs of Calpe, Spain, the building mirrors the surrounding rocky landscape through its bold geometric form. Completed in 1968, the project emerged from Taller de Arquitectura’s radical rethinking of residential design, rooted in their vision of a ‘garden city in space’. Edificio Xanadú sits alongside other landmark projects from this period, including Bofill’s iconic La Muralla Roja. The complex comprises 17 apartments, each made up of three interlocking cubic volumes - designated for living spaces, sleeping areas, and services - creating a sculptural interplay of form, light, and shadow across the façade.
