#ArchitectureFriday | Influenced by the visionary works of Le Corbusier and Frank Lloyd Wright, Torres Blancas remains one of Spain’s most distinctive residential landmarks 🌳 Designed in the 1960s by renowned architect Francisco Javier Sáenz de Oiza, Torres Blancas is a bold expression of Spanish Organicism. Oiza envisioned the building as a living organism: a central core acting as the trunk, with balconies and terraces branching outward like limbs and leaves. At a time when Brutalist rectilinearity dominated skylines across Europe, Torres Blancas took a radical turn. Its cylindrical volumes, fluid curves, and textured concrete façade offered a softer, more organic counterpoint to the era’s architectural rigidity. Internally, the building features spiralling staircases, rounded floor plans, and generous curved terraces that dissolve the boundaries between inside and out. Oiza’s emphasis on movement, light, and form was intended to foster a richer, more human living experience. Commissioned by the forward-thinking developer Juan Huarte, the original plan called for twin towers - but only one was completed. Rising 71 metres, it houses 23 floors of residential apartments, capped with a rooftop swimming pool and garden, underscoring its vision of vertical, nature-integrated living.
