#ArchitectureFriday | Celebrated Spanish architect Ricardo Bofill once described La Fábrica as a 'magic box of wonderful, surreal elements' 💛 The story of La Fábrica began in 1973, when Bofill discovered an abandoned cement factory on the outskirts of Barcelona. Over the next five decades, he transformed the vast industrial complex into a space that became his home, studio, and the headquarters of his architecture practice, Taller de Arquitectura. Drawn to the poetic potential of the factory’s silos and concrete tunnels, Bofill reimagined the ruin as a living organism that was part Brutalist monument and part Surrealist dreamscape. He described it as a 'cathedral of architecture', where raw industry meets lyrical beauty. Expansive windows flood the interiors with natural light, framing views of gardens that spill into and around the concrete volumes. Landscaped by Catalan craftsmen, these outdoor spaces weave together olive trees, palms, and climbing greenery, softening the building’s monumental presence and blending architecture with nature. 📸 Salva López
