This May, we present a special listening session of ‘Channel Orange’ by Frank Ocean. Released over a decade ago in 2012, this album still resonates deeply and remains ahead of its time. Blending traditional R&B, Electronic, Hip-Hop, Funk, and Gospel, it pushed the boundaries of what modern R&B could be. The album was a zeitgeist upon release, winning Frank his first Grammy award & broadening his audience to the mainstream. The emotional tone of the LP is raw introspection, diving into themes like love, desire, heartbreak, and self-discovery. The title of the album, is in reference to the neurological phenomenon ‘grapheme–color synesthesia’, which an individual’s perception of numerals and letters is associated with the experience of colors. Through which he had perceived the color Orange during the summer he first fell in love. We will be listening to the album front-to-back on our Hi-Fi sound system at the height of the evening. We will be joined by the @slowjamz.co crew for this session. Where they will be holding down the decks, spinning the essential R&B cuts all night. Founded in 2017 right here in the LBC by @elwoodespiritu, Slow Jamz represents a community same as us, all rooted in the love for music, inspiring us to play the records we want & how it should be heard. This Mother’s Day, we got the best plans for you! We’ll be hosting a very special Covers For Mothers at @zayadtla on May 11th! Enjoy dinner & a show with your moms or celebrate your bae with us as our live jazz band plays through Sade’s greatest hits. Our very first Covers For Lovers was Sade back in January and our session sold out quickly, so I wanted to bring this back for all the moms who requested it. So if you missed out, don’t make the same mistake twice because then it’ll turn into a habit. This event will be seated only, as Zaya is a full-service restaurant, so space is limited! Seating will be assigned on a first come first serve basis for downstairs tables (with stage view), bar (with limited stage view), or the cocktail lounge in the mezzanine (no stage view).
