Tomorrow at the KidSuper Gallery is the opening of the curated group show “Call You Mother.” In honor of Mother’s Day all participating artist are mothers. “Motherhood is power—messy, beautiful, relentless. This exhibition honors artists who create life and art simultaneously—not in spite of motherhood but through it. KENSUPER! WE GOT OUR OWN BARBIE!! Story time: Four years ago we got accepted into Paris Fashion Week, Covid hit and all shows went virtual. I had no money in my bank account because I had done two off calendar shows back to back. I was afraid I wouldn’t have money for my next show but now because of Covid there were no rules. I had done a bunch of stop motion music videos and shorts and thought it would be such a KidSuper thing to make that our first official runway show. I remember telling my friends “I think we are going to get kicked off of Paris fashion week because the clothes are… miniature, nothing is real.” We bought hundreds of Barbie dolls, redressed them and animated them. I even emailed Mattel’s support team at the time to try to get free Barbie’s for the show. I think it was just too last minute. Now four years later we have our own Barbie and it is wearing a look straight from our runway show!! This show “Everything Is Fake Until It’s Real” was a huge moment for KidSuper. Instead of getting kicked off, it became one of, if not the best show of fashion week. Stores and insider fashion people started contacting me for the first time ever. I started to win awards. All from this show. In retrospect it was so amazing to be honored for the idea that felt the most true to me. From that moment on I went full throttle with all of my wild ideas. This Barbie represents more than just a collaboration but a physical embodiment of this amazing moment in KidSuper history! (also I had long hair at the time haha) Thank you so much @barbie @mattel @mattelcreations

My designs for the Met Gala. I got asked to sketch some designs for the Met Gala but it ended up not happening. I think often brands always post when things go right but behind these scenes there is a lot of attempts that don’t end up working out. This was a fun design challenge that I thought you should see.
